Fairy Costumes that are Simply Magical

Special Considerations at Halloween

Filed under: general, Halloween — Magic Fairy Realm at 7:19 pm on Tuesday, October 31, 2006

Halloween is a very fun, exciting holiday.  However, it is also, sadly, one of the most abused holidays of the year.  Many things have changed about the holiday, but some have stayed just the way they always were.  What has changed has done so for the better.  What has not changed, however, is all of the ill-intended behavior of certain people who would ruin your fun without a second thought.  Awareness has risen, thankfully, and that’s why so many changes in the traditions of Halloween have come about.  Now you will find a whole lot less of the traditional trick-or-treating than you used to.  Instead, families head to the local mall or other central location for their trick-or-treating.  And parties have become a more popular choice for the very same reason.  Rather than taking any risks, parents are now wise to keep their kids well out of harm’s way.

Awareness to so many things is increasing, primarily because it is so much easier now than ever before to spread the word about what is out there.  Medical information is among the most popular subjects spread by e-mail and other media.  A lot of things you may have never known existed are now part of your daily life.  This includes things such as food allergies, like the often mentioned allergies children have to nuts, and also to other medically sensitive conditions such as diabetes.  It is important to know about these issues, and it is even more important to know which children have which condition.  This may sound a little extreme, but it’s not.  Rather, it is responsible to make sure that no child is put at risk of any food danger.  With all the candy of the holiday, it’s very possible for your kids to get into something that may not be good for them.

On the subject of your own kids, take a minute or two to think about how to inform everyone of your child’s condition, assuming there is one.  Be sure to talk with your kids about what kinds of foods, candies especially, they are permitted to have, and also which ones they are not permitted to have.  Tell them how to politely refuse the offer of something they are not allowed to eat.  Also, be sure to teach them a little extra about such conditions so they will be more aware and more able to help other kids.  Furthermore, it is to your credit that your kids have expressed sensitivity to others with medical conditions.  The only way this can happen is if you’ve taught them, and others will definitely take notice.

It’s also becoming less popular in some areas to wear scary costumes.  That’s why such costumes as princesses, movie characters, and the ever-popular fairy costume are classic good choices.  Halloween doesn’t have to be scary to be fun.  So if you’re thinking of making your child into a fairy this year, you’ll find the fairy dress, fairy wings, and all the other items you’ll need.

Remember, Halloween is about fun.  Do your part to keep it safe, friendly, fun, and maybe a little less scary.

Safety First - Tips for a Safer Halloween

Filed under: general, Halloween — Magic Fairy Realm at 5:11 pm on Monday, October 23, 2006

Halloween is quite possibly one of the most interesting, fun, and magical holidays we celebrate.  There are so many things about the holiday that are still very mysterious and enchanting.  Among those mysteries, sadly, is why there are people out there who would want to do something dangerous to ruin the fun of Halloween for others.

There are many crimes reported each year during the Halloween holiday.  Among the most common are vandalism, robbery, and assault.  Others occur as well, including some cases of drunk driving and other such preventable hazards.  However, it is very easy to prevent most of the hazards of Halloween from affecting you and your family as you celebrate.

To begin with, one of the most important things you could do is educate yourself and your children.  The more you know about the risks to your safety, and where they are, the better able you will be to prevent something bad from happening.  Countless resources exist to help you make safe plans for Halloween.  A search on the internet will help you to find safety guidelines for trick-or-treating and other Halloween events.  Also, schools usually give some pointers to children to ensure their safety.  Local law enforcement agencies will be able to provide information as well.  They will typically have the most updated information.

Candy has gained a reputation as the most dangerous part of the holiday.  This may or may not be true.  However, what is true is that it never hurts to play it safe.  So, to be safe, make sure that your child is not accepting candy that does not appear to be in its original wrapper.  Also, make sure that the wrapper has not been tampered with in any way.  You can observe some of this while out trick-or-treating, but you will have to spend some time at home checking the candy further to make sure it is safe.  Make sure your child knows not to eat any of the candy before bringing it home.  Children should be accompanied by an adult.  Never let your children go out unsupervised.  It’s best to take your children only to the areas you know well.

One of the most effective ways to ensure your child’s safety is simply to avoid the traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating that once was the staple event of the holiday.  Now it is much more common to find trick-or-treating events at local malls and at other centralized locations.  This can be a great benefit, as more effort can go into making a much smaller area fun to visit.  You avoid the potential hazards of traffic and strangers, the risk of bad weather, and just about all of the other things that could ruin Halloween.  Consider either going to a centralized Halloween event this year, or hosting your own Halloween party to bring the fun where you are.

No matter where you go, you should think about the visibility of your child.  The more showy the costume, the more memorable it will be.  This is important because, no matter how careful you are, a child can easily become lost.  The more obvious they are, the better.  One very good costume idea for girls is to dress your child in a fairy costume.  These attractive costumes are available in many bright colors and will guarantee that you child is noticeable.  Fun and functional, you can find an excellent selection of these costumes.  Remember, this is potentially one of the most dangerous holidays for strictly preventable reasons.  Have fun and be safe on this Halloween!

Magical, Mystical Halloween

If you are wondering about the origins of Halloween, you can find that there are many different stories and origins of how the holiday started. Some say that it is a day of Satan, or the worship of evil spirits and the practice of witchcraft which they believe is Druid religion. There are others who believe it was a day for the ghosts of the dead to come back and settle the scores on people who had done them wrong.

A few stories have been told about the spirits that had past away the year before this night and they were coming back in search of living bodies to possess in hopes of an afterlife. I have heard myself that Halloween was a European custom called All Souls Day, where early Christians would travel to villages collecting cakes and for every cake that they collected they would say a prayer for the patrons lost loved ones. They believed this would help the wondering souls enter into heaven.

There is the magic of the Jack-O-Lantern where the flame that sits inside is supposed to scare away the evil for it is afraid of being tricked. The ghost, goblins and witches that most people would associate with evil were actually thought of as the ones to scare the

Evil spirits away. They were believed to mingle with the people on the eve of the New Year while the people also wore masks and celebrated. When I think of a magical and mystical Halloween, I think of some ghosts and goblins, but I also think of fairies and pixies in a glen dancing, singing, and glowing in the moonlight! Spreading their wings in the fresh night air, afraid of nothing! Roaming in their land playing little tricks on anyone they come across. I think of the elves playing their music with flutes and drums in the middle of a glen.

The current Halloween that we now celebrate is a mix of ancient customs combine together through the years. The majority of people in the here and now do not associate the ancient beliefs with Halloween. We still think of ghosts and goblins and witches, but generally we do not associate Satan with Halloween. We are worried about what kind of costumes our children are going to choose and if we are going to buy them or make them.

We fret about where to find exactly what they want or what we need to put the costumes together to have them look their extreme best. On the whole, large numbers of children really don’t even like to dress up in scary costumes any more. There are so many cartoons characters and fictional story book characters or characters from movies that children want to be they don’t even think about the scary part of it.

Today in the present time when you think or say Halloween the first thing that pops into most adults and children’s minds is candy, and then I would say pumpkins. Children think of fun and games at parties in a cool costume that they get to show off once a year. After pondering the ancient traditions of Halloween, I do not see much magic, mystic, or evil in this particular holiday any more. I see it as a chance for children to be something for one whole day that they dream about being all year or when they grow up. They get to bring home a big bag of candy and carve faces in pumpkins. We as adults really don’t explain the original meaning of Halloween to them because we ourselves do not celebrate it in the same manner as the ancient people did, due to our beliefs changing.

Halloween: Places to Be, and Places to Avoid

Filed under: general, Halloween — Magic Fairy Realm at 8:33 pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2006

This year for Halloween may be a little different for you.  Perhaps this is the first year your child is old enough to be out for the holiday, or perhaps you’ve decided to shake things up a little and now you just need to decide what to do differently.  Things have certainly changed quite a bit from when you were the kid going out on the town to trick-or-treat.  Now there is much more awareness about the dangers of going out to people’s homes as once was the custom.  So it should come as no surprise that you are going to be looking in very different directions for places to go with your kids this Halloween.

If, for this Halloween, you’ve decided to go with your kids, you can consider a little trick-or-treating through neighborhoods.  Make sure they are well-lit areas with which you are familiar.  It’s even better if you can group together with a friend’s kids.  The more of you there are, the more fun it should be, and the safer too.  It is very important that you avoid areas of town where the lights are not bright enough.  Look also for clues such as very few people out on the road, especially if you see no kids.  Those areas won’t be fun anyway, so stay away.

Parties are fun to take your children to.  There are a lot of options for this.  Take your kids to a party at a friend’s house, or at the community or civic center in your area.  These are great options and are very safe.  The more people who bring their kids to the party, the more likely it is that there will be law enforcement nearby to ensure everyone has a safe and happy Halloween.  Another fun option for you to consider is a hay ride.  Kids absolutely love these, and they are commonly part of a much bigger event.

Locations where you can call to find out what’s going on are numerous.  Often, your child’s school will probably have good information on where the fun will be.  Fire departments in some communities host events for Halloween.  So do police departments.  Call these, and even call the local Chamber of Commerce.  These are all excellent community resources that will lead you in the direction of good, safe fun for your children.  The one thing you don’t want to do is send them to a place where you know nothing about the hosts.  Trust is not something you should toss out on this holiday.

Regardless of where you and your children spend this Halloween, the one thing that is at the front of your mind, even more important than fun, is safety.  That’s why costumes should be bright, attractive, and noticeable.  Make sure that your child’s costume is going to make him or her easy to locate.  One good idea for a girl is a fairy costume.  With a bright, colorful fairy dress and brilliant butterfly fairy wings, your daughter will be easy to find in any crowd.  Take a look and you’ll agree that these are the costumes your child will appreciate for their appearance, and you can appreciate for reasons even more important.

Halloween - The Ultimate Dress-Up Event

Filed under: general, Halloween — Magic Fairy Realm at 4:56 pm on Thursday, October 5, 2006

Chances are that you’ve had a very busy year like just about everyone else has, and so you’ve had fewer chances to spend good quality time with your kids than you’d like.  Well, it’s a fact of modern life, but there are still some really good times to take advantage of.  Halloween is one of them.  It’s a night full of fun and excitement, and you can tailor it to just what you want.

Your kids are probably already talking about what they want to do for the holiday, and so that means it’s time for you to start thinking about how to make it one of the memorable times for your family.  The fact is that, despite whatever else it may be, Halloween is the ultimate in dress-up events, and what kid doesn’t love to have a dress-up party?  This is one where you can really let loose and have fun being as goofy or as scary as you want.  And the great thing is that you can even all go out in public that way, and no one will even think differently of you for it!  How great is that?  Here’s what you can do to make the whole thing worthwhile.

First of all, take time now to think about what you would like to do for this Halloween.  Make a list of some of the activities that you would like to have.  Will you go trick-or-treating through the neighborhood?  Or would you rather take the kids to the mall and have the same kind of fun there?  How about a haunted house?  There are many types of haunted houses out there, and they’re not necessarily too scary for little ones.  It’s up to you.

There are still more options.  But the key to the holiday is dressing up.  Once you’ve come up with the ideas for how to spend Halloween, it’s time to get the kids involved.  Have a talk with them about what you think would be fun this year, and then get their input.  You may find that they have some new ideas that are even better than the ways you spent Halloween as a kid.  Plan the whole thing out with them.  You’ll be making it a lot more fun for your children when you let them in on the decision-making.  They love to feel like they have a responsibility in what’s going on.  The more they can do, the better time they’ll have.

When it comes to the actual dressing up, make it as fun as you can.  Of course, you’re going to need to find costumes suitable to your rules, and their tastes also.  For girls, fairy costumes are sure to be a hit.  She can either be a cute, gentle fairy, or she can be something just a little scarier and more mischievous if that is to her liking.

Music, drinks, snacks, and whatever else you can think of should be part of the dress-up party.  This is really a chance for you to have a “party before the party”.  It also gives you time to make sure your kids know the do’s and don’t’s of the plans for the evening.  And you can get all that in while having fun the whole time.  Think about it, plan ahead for the holiday, and you’ll soon find you and your kids having more fun than you’ve had all year!

Attending a Halloween Party - Do’s and Dont’s

Filed under: general, Fairy, Halloween — Magic Fairy Realm at 7:46 pm on Friday, September 29, 2006

In the previous article the discussion was on you being the host of the Halloween party.  However, the majority of people will not be hosting the party.  Rather they and their children, or perhaps just their children, will be going to someone else’s party.  It’s an opportunity to have a lot of fun and keep your kids in a safe environment without all of the risk associated with outdoor activities.  Whether it’s a public haunted house or neighborhood trick-or-treating, you may very well have misgivings about such activities for your children, and so going to the Halloween party your child has been invited to is the best choice of all.  Following you will find some ideas about what you should do and what you should not do when attending or sending your child to a Halloween party.

First of all we should cover what should be done when you send your child to a Halloween party.  You’ve probably received an invitation to the party, so the proper thing to do is to respond in the manner requested as early as you possibly can.  Another thing you should do is to offer to help out in some way.  Now, this does not mean that you should plan to attend the party yourself to work, just simply offer to send something with your child that might be needed.  Paper plates, cups, napkins, anything you can think of to offer as a contribution to the party will be very much appreciated by the host, even if your offer is not accepted.  Also, you will want to send your child to the party with the appropriate costume.  Perhaps the host has not clarified this, so make a call and find out what is acceptable in costumes and what is not.  This is a wonderful courtesy to extend to the host.  He or she is putting a lot of effort into the event, and so anything you can do to make it easier will ensure that your child is invited back for all of the future events planned.

Now it’s time to talk a little bit about the don’t’s.  You really want to put some thought into this one and make sure everything goes well.  It’s one thing to forget a courtesy, but it’s entirely another to do something so obviously out-of-place that the party’s quality is affected by your carelessness.  So don’t be caught in this trap.  Make sure you do not ignore details in the requests of the host.  If a snack is required from each guest, don’t send your kid without one.  Also, be sure not to get your child there late unless you’ve made the host aware of it before-hand.  Another big no-no is to bring along someone who is not on the invitation list.  If your 9 year old is the only one invited, don’t bring your 5 year old along too, unless you’ve cleared it with the host ahead of time.

A lot of this is really a matter of common courtesy and standard good social skills.  Make sure you talk with your child about proper etiquette at the party.  And, if it’s a permissible costume, consider sending your daughter as a fairy.  Fairy costumes are available online at www.magicfairyrealm.com.  You can find a great assortment at low prices that will make your daughter one of the most attractive attendees of the Halloween party.  Following this advice will make sure your child looks good, has fun, and gets the next invitation the hosts pass out.

Hosting a Halloween Party

Filed under: Halloween — Magic Fairy Realm at 7:44 pm on Friday, September 29, 2006

So what are you going to do for Halloween this year?  Yes, believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about that already.  And your kids have a lot of ideas for the holiday, so should you listen to them, or come up with your own plan?  Well, that’s something you will have to decide for yourself, but I would like to make one suggestion that you may not have thought of yet.  A Halloween party is a great way to celebrate the holiday without going out into the madness that can surely be common on the streets on Halloween night.  You can have the party at your own home, or you can host it from another place such as at the school or at a community center.  The location is really up to you and your budget, but there are a lot of ways you can make a Halloween party fun and affordable.

One of the main things to keep in mind is the age of the children who will be attending.  Chances are that most of them will be under ten, so plan accordingly.  Drinks and snacks may have to be planned in conjunction with the other parents so that you can avoid any mishaps over what a child is or is not allowed to eat.  Also, bear in mind that there are some things about Halloween that could be deemed inappropriate, depending on the individual beliefs held by parents of the children you would plan to invite.  So early discussions with all of the parents will help to avoid any disappointment at the time of the party.

Here’s what you can do for decorations.  On the outside of the house, it would probably be best to make all the decorations less frightening.  Some of the kids coming to the party will not respond very well to scary stuff, so you may want to either avoid scary things altogether, or at least reserve such displays for a special location that kids can choose to enter, or not, depending on their individual preference.

Invitations should be something in the spirit of the holiday.  You probably do not need to mail them.  Just have your children pass them out to the kids who will be invited.  After all, these are your kids’ friends, so they’ll see them often enough to make sure the invitations are handed out.  Also, if you’ve discussed it with the parents and they are okay with the idea, simply include a reminder on the invitation to bring some kind of snack or drink.  This can be a little like a pot-luck if you’ve planned it that way in advance.  That way you are also sharing some of the costs of the party with everyone else involved.  After all, you’re working out all the details and hosting the party, so a little sharing of the cost is reasonable.

At the party, be sure that you have lots of fun activities.  Music, movies, and games are a must.  And what would be better than for your daughter, the unofficial hostess of the event, to be a charming fairy?  It’s a wonderful idea she’ll probably be excited about.  If you want to find a great fairy costume for her, go to www.magicfairyrealm.com.  She will be the darling of the party, greeting every guest at the door with a sprinkle of her magic fairy dust.  It’s sure to make her the life of the Halloween party.
